Hwa Chong Humanities Seminar 08

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Hwa Chong

What were Hosaywood films doing at a literature seminar? I initially had no idea too. Turns out, it’s really interesting what students are learning in their curriculum these days. Maybe one day, ‘Wah lau eh!’ instead of ‘Thou art something something’ will be in the textbooks =)

The students (from different schools) responded well to Zo Gang & Tak Giu, great to see them ask enthusiastic questions.
Thanks, if you were there and enjoyed the films.

Back from Toronto Singapore Film Festival

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Just came back from the 3rd TSFF in Toronto, Canada.

Together with local filmmakers Kelvin Sng, Chee Tian & Elgin, I had a really good time and was made to feel at home by many Singaporeans and Canadians there. Thank you TSFF peoples and audience!

There is also a Malaysia/Singapore radio program known as ‘Kampung Ku’, run by a Singlish speaking Ang-moh know as ‘Encik Daud’ and his Malaysian wife. Steady right?

Read coverage of TSFF at Movie Moxie, and see photos here by Leonard Adam.

Sinema Showoff

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Zo Gang was screened last Monday at Sinema Showoff, with the premiere of the exclusive Zo Gang Blooper Reel. Be warned, it might be funnier than the film itself!

Showoff

Jeremy Sing (Director of The Girl in the Red Sarong) spotted something interesting in Zo Gang:
“…Boy (young man) walks across basketball court to place something that looks like a jacket on the ground, all that while Merlion Tan was talking to the camera.”

Read it here on his blog and also on Sinema.

The screening was attended by less than 20 people though. Do come down for the repeated sessions on Mar 17, 24, 31. Entry is free, with other great films on show!
